Don't Only Face Reality, Create That MF

Brooke Giguere

“The most valuable skill or talent that you could ever develop is that of directing your thoughts toward what you want” -Abraham Hicks

There’s a thing I’m always saying to myself and to my clients… “don’t just face your reality, create that muthafucka”.  Facing reality means only looking at what is and expecting it to change. Creating reality means acknowledging the “what is” but then connecting with what it is you desire now. You can’t create a new or different reality when you’re only focused on seeing, talking about or rehashing the current reality. When you experience what you don’t want, you know more clearly what you do want. Creating your reality is about thinking and feeling your way to more of what you desire. Deliberate creation of your reality involves awareness of our now reality and intentionally feeling our way into thoughts, actions and manifestations of our desired outcomes.

Stay with me, I’m gonna break this down a bit...

I see people on autopilot all the time.  Going about their days like robots, not really engaged in anything while focusing on their phones or device of choice.  It happens. Shit happens.  That’s to be expected with all that our world is doing these days.  But I also see people on autopilot with their thoughts, their words and definitely their actions.  Doing and saying the same things they did and said yesterday and the day before and the week before that.  On and on, making the same choices and wondering if this is all there is to their lives.

OK, so you’re on autopilot mode and you know you are.  That’s great.  Can’t change anything that you’re not aware of so at least we got that.  Awareness creates options.  Options to respond, to check-in and to move from a place that feels better to us.  Awareness improves your success too.  It improves your ability to inspire and motivate yourself and others around you.  Awareness enhances your emotional engagement in your life which reduces your stress and how quickly you shift from a stress reaction to inspired action.   Basically, how aware you are in any given moment is the crux of your ability to deliberately create your reality.

I create awareness for myself and my clients in lots of ways.   There’s no one right way and I suggest you create several ways so you have different tools in your toolbox for different scenarios.  Case in point, begin to practice grounding or centering techniques such as breathwork, going for a walk outside, simply noticing how the ground feels beneath your feet or how the chair feels as you are sitting.  Bringing your attention to the now moment, connecting mind and body all create your awareness.  Meditation is another way to create awareness.  I even have a client who carries a rock in her pocket as a reminder to check in with herself and come back to the present moment every time she touches it.

So now we’re doing things to create more awareness in our lives. Cool beans. But now what? This is gonna sounds simple as fuck, and it is. But it’s also probably gonna trip you up if you’re not practiced in connecting your thoughts to how they make you feel. That’s ok.  Our world doesn’t really encourage us to do that but I am. Right now I’m asking you to give it a try and notice how a thought you keep thinking makes you feel. Acknowledge if the thoughts you have feel good to you or if they feel bad.

Thinking “there’s not enough money” feels bad to me.

Thinking “I can always make more money” feels better or good to me.

Now you try it.  Whenever you think about something, ask yourself “Does this thought feel good to me right now?” If the answer is yes, awesome. Smile and keep thinking that thought. If the answer is no, awesome. Still smile and ask yourself “what thought would feel better than this one?” Follow your feelings and reach for a better feeling thought. This awareness will shift your momentum.
